Scott Arniel is in his third season behind the bench as an Assistant Coach for the Washington Capitals. He has over 18 years of experience coaching in the NHL, AHL and IHL including five years as the head coach with the Chicago Wolves and the Manitoba Moose. In the NHL, he has coached with the Buffalo Sabres, Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers before joining the Capitals in 2018. Arniel began his coaching career in 2000 after retiring from professional hockey, joining the Manitoba Moose as an Assistant Coach.
In 2009, Arniel was named AHL Coach of the Year after leading the Manitoba Moose to the Calder Cup Final and posting a franchise record with 50 wins and 107 points.
As a player, Arniel was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the second round of the 1981 NHL Draft (22nd overall). He went on to play in 730 career games for Winnipeg, Buffalo, and Boston before finishing his career in the IHL with Manitoba. Arniel won two Memorial Cup Championships in 1980 and 1981 with Cornwall of the QMJHL, a gold medal with Team Canada at the 1982 World Junior Championships, and the IHL Turner Cup Championship in 1996 with Utah.
