TORONTO (Sep. 1, 2023) – The National Hockey League Coaches’ Association announced today that the Executive Committee has unanimously appointed Lindsay Pennal as NHLCA Executive Director. The news comes following the departure of former Executive Director, Michael Hirshfeld, who on September 1, 2023 was named General Manager of the newly formed Professional Women’s Hockey League team in Ottawa. Pennal has been working with the NHLCA since the beginning of the 2016-17 NHL season and has served as NHLCA President since January 1, 2019.

“We are excited to name Lindsay Pennal as the next Executive Director of the NHLCA,” said Bruce Cassidy, Head Coach of the Vegas Golden Knights and the NHLCA Executive Committee’s President. “Lindsay is a proven leader with a strong business background. She’s been instrumental in the growth of the NHLCA since she first joined us and her passionate, forward-thinking approach is well-suited for the role. We look forward to the NHLCA’s future under Lindsay’s leadership.”

“I am honoured to be selected as the Executive Director of the NHLCA. As I head into my eighth season, this will be a seamless transition that I’m very much looking forward to,” said Lindsay Pennal. “It’s been a privilege working with our NHL and AHL coaches and I’m excited for the growth ahead of us, particularly in supporting the development of future generations of hockey coaches.”

The NHLCA Executive Committee for the 2023-24 season is led by Bruce Cassidy (Vegas Golden Knights), Todd McLellan (LA Kings), Jared Bednar (Colorado Avalanche), and Dean Evason (Minnesota Wild).
