As the decade quickly comes to a close, it is important to take a step back and reflect on all the history that was made over the past 10 years. The NHL has seen many coaches come and go over the past 10 years, especially within the past month or two of the current season.
Barry Trotz has a home in Nashville, where he stood behind the Predators’ bench for the franchise’s first 15 seasons. He has a home in Florida, where he can imagine retiring someday, though at age 57 not anytime soon. Now in his second season with the Islanders, he’s still unpacking boxes in Huntington, N.Y. Such is the transitory lot of an NHL coach.
Cassidy’s ability to adapt, teach and coach younger players and an experienced veteran core is one reason he’s now locked in behind Boston’s bench for at least the next four seasons.
