BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State hockey coach Bob Daniels obviously didn’t realize when he recruited Jeff Blashill to be a goalie at Ferris that the Sault Ste. Marie native would become the future coach of the Detroit Red Wings.
Jeff Blashill was attempting to take Seth Appert’s job when the two first met in 1994. Both were goaltenders at Ferris State University, Appert a junior and Blashill a freshman.

Two years ago, as the Red Wings were going through training camp in Traverse City, Jeff Blashill had a pair of visitors from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in attendance.
