Inspired by the Saskatoon Blades’ recent hiring of former Hockey Canada video coach Ryan Dietrich to head coach Mitch Love’s staff for the 2020-21 season, we are going to look back at five former Blades’ players who later coached in the NHL.
Those who attended the annual NHL Coaches’ Association Global Coaches Clinic in Dallas last year were given quite a treat. A trio of established bench bosses with a combined 35 years of NHL head coaching experience, Mike Babcock, Todd McLellan, and Bill Peters shared their wisdom with coaches on hand.
Mike Babcock’s office is just as you’d imagine it. It’s organized. There doesn’t appear to be a single item out of place. His desk at the team’s practice facility in Toronto’s west end is dotted with notebooks, loose sheets of paper covered in plastic, a book, and pictures of his family. It’s what you’d expect for the uber-prepared, hard-charging head coach of the Maple Leafs.
